He slept through the night!

we were out all day on saturday. first at a birthday party and then hung out with friends in the evening. except for a couple short naps, caleb was awake the entire time. he finally fell asleep in the car and when we got home we gave him a quick bath, bottle, and then put him to bed. he slept from 10pm to 6am! alllll night! i woke up about 4 times just to check on him and he was fine so i took advantage of it and got some sleep too. i thought it was a one time thing but we might be on a roll here. last night he slept from 10pm to 5am. he probably would have slept longer if i didn't pick him up when he started to stir. i was feeling very uncomfortable and needed him to drain my boobs. when he was done he went back to sleep. he's becoming such a good sleeper! great job, baby. keep it up!

He's 2 months old!

today is caleb's 2 month birthday. i can't believe he is already 2 months old! he's been holding his head up for a while now, making eye contact, recognizing faces, smiling and "talking" a lot! he's so much fun. i love being his mommy.

i went to my first Stroller Strides class today and it kicked my butt but i loved it! my friend Brixie is an instructor in her area's Stroller Strides group and she really enjoys it (and she is in great shape because of it!) so i decided to try it out. she even drove all the way out here to attend my first class with me. she's such a great friend, huh? THANKS SO MUCH BRIX!! it was a great workout!

even though i trailed behind the group at times, i was suprised that i was able to do as much as i did since i had basically zero activity on bedrest and it took forever for me to feel better after the c-section. i still have some pelvic pain and i definitely felt it today during class but i pushed through it. hopefully as i get stronger the pain will lessen gradually. it was good to get out in the fresh air and caleb seemed to enjoy it too.

happy 2 month birthday, caleb! mommy loves you soooooo BIG!

Projectile Vomiting

these pictures were taken yesterday afternoon when caleb was in a good mood. isn't he so stinkin' cute?! he's so much fun to hang out with.

so... on to the not-so-fun stuff... sunday night i was changing his diaper and all of a sudden he shot out a huge amount of barf all over his changing table and the floor. we checked his temperature and everything was normal so we kept an eye on him for the rest of the evening. everything seemed fine yesterday except he was a little fussy in the evening. then, last night as i was trying to give him his reflux meds, he projectile vomited again. two nights in a row. john and i were really worried. his temp was at 99.2, not too high but with the elevated temperature and two nights of projectile vomiting, we were worried. i called the nurse and she asked me a ton of questions. she said that if he vomited again to bring him in but if not then to bring him in the morning. the rest of the night he was fine so we took him to the pediatrician today. turns out it's just his acid reflux acting up. i hate acid reflux. he spits up all the time and gags and coughs and i hate it because i wish i could do something to make him feel better and i can't. my poor baby. the doctor said he will most likely grow out of it by 6 months to a year. i sure hope so.

Nails

yes, those are caleb's nail clippings. they are so tiny and cute. this picture was taken last week and it's already time to clip his nails again. i knew i'd end up taking a picture of them. weird? yes, probably. but i'm so in love with every part of this kid - including his little nail clippings.

Caleb's doctor appt update

caleb's head ultrasound results were normal. whew! i wasn't too worried about it but during the ultrasound the technician was asking me questions like "was he a preemie?" and in my head i was thinking, "why? do you see something in his brain that would cause you to think that?". then she brought some random lady in the room just to LOOK at caleb. not to look at the ultrasound images but just to look at him and make small talk. meanwhile, i was just wanting to know what she saw in my baby's brain. thankfully, everything was normal and i was just paranoid.

my baby now weighs 11 lbs. 4 oz! almost twice his birth weight. what a little tub-a-lub! but the doctor said he's at the 50th percentile for weight. he is 23 inches tall which puts him between the 50th-75th percentile for height. he's doing good but still has reflux issues so he has to continue taking his meds.

i wasn't expecting it but since he was just a few days shy of 8 weeks they went ahead and gave him his shots. i cried. he cried. all day yesterday he was either sleeping or eating and when he wasn't doing either one of those, he was SCREAMING. my poor baby. john and i felt so bad for him. we gave him tylenol which seemed to help. today he is back to his normal self and this morning he was smiling and cooing at me while i changed his diaper. i was so happy. i'm so glad he is feeling better.

Update from my doctor's visit

my doctor's appt went well on friday. my doctor said that i've healed nicely and that i can resume normal activity. i asked her about my pelvic pain and she said that it will get better over time but that i'll probably never be what i was pre-pregnancy. ok, i can deal with that. however, i learned very quickly on sunday that my pelvis is NOT ready for running (good thing i've never been a fan of running, i guess). after church, my neice kaia asked me to chase her on the grass and all i can say is OWWWW! my pelvic bones felt like they were pulling apart. hopefully it will get better as i get stronger.

i am partially to blame for my lack of sleep (at least on saturday, that is). i woke up at 3am because my boobs were uncomfortably full so i had to pump. after i was done i went back to bed and caleb was still sleeping soundly. he looked so peaceful. i had a million things running through my head so i layed there and drove myself nuts trying to figure everything out. i stared at him for 45 minutes before he woke up. i actually wanted him to wake up at that point so i could cuddle him and love on him. i know i enjoyed it more than he did. i was really tired the next day though. it was worth it.

April Fool's

caleb played a late april fool's day joke on me. remember how i said he slept for 5 1/2 hours straight? i got so excited because i thought that maybe we were on our way to sleeping through the night. HA! april fool's! the 5 1/2 hour block of sleep has only happened once. last night he fell asleep at around 9:00, i got to sleep at 10pm, we were awake again at 11pm to eat and poop (him, not me), asleep by midnight, awake at 2:45am to eat again, asleep at 4am, awake at 5am to poop and "snack" on the boob, asleep at 6am-ish, and awake at 8:30am. needless to say, i am exhausted!

no, i'm not complaining... i'd wake up 20 times a night if he needed me to. not every night is like this. most nights we get a 3-4 hour block of sleep and then another 2-3 hour block. so it's not that bad. the broken sleep is hard though so i try to take at least one nap during the day.

i see my doctor tomorrow so she can check how well i've healed. my pelvis is still an issue but it's not a constant pain. i expect her to say that it will get better over time. at least that's what i hope she'll say. it would really suck if i had this issue forever. we'll just have to wait and see.

caleb has a follow up head ultrasound on wednesday. the doctor said that after he was born his head felt "crackly" which could be a sign that his scull was fractured from the trama of the birth. they did an x-ray and there weren't any fractures but they wanted to also make sure there wasn't any bleeding in his brain. they gave him an ultrasound before we were discharged from the hospital and that ultrasound looked good. just to make sure though, they want to do a follow up next week. i don't think that anything is wrong but it is reassuring that they are going to check again. after the ultrasound he has another appt with the NICU doctor to check on his progress. so it looks like next wednesday is going to be a big day. i hope we get lots of sleep the night before!
