The Fauxhawk

Ta Dah!!! Caleb's second haircut went much better than his first. He's got style! I figure I'd better take a couple of pictures today because who knows if he'll ever let me "do" his hair again. :)

B-Day #32 at Disneyland

We celebrated my 32nd birthday at Disneyland! This year Disney is giving everyone a free ticket if you go on your birthday so we decided to make it a family day. John took a day off work and we headed out to Anaheim. It was a great day. Caleb was a little overwhelmed and overtired but overall, I think he had a good time. Here he is with Mickey. He wasn't scared at all of that big mouse!
He was mesmerized by the singing chickens in Mickey's House.

Posing out front at the entrance. Too bad we didn't get a family photo here.

Caleb and Daddy in front of Chip & Dale's Tree House.

Yes, we used the kid leash. Caleb is too fast and there were too many people there to let him walk freely. He hated being held or being put in the stroller. All he wanted to do was walk around and explore.

This is when he was watching a little girl eat her lunch. He has such a sneaky little face here. I wonder what he was thinking!
We had a really good day. The best part was/is that we went during a time that they had 2fer-1 tickets. Since my birthday ticket was free (and of course Caleb was free) we only had to pay for John but we both got 2fer-1 tickets. Sometime in the next 30 days we'll be going back for free using our 2fer-1 tickets and we'll go to California Adventure. Happy Birthday to me!
Oh my gosh, I am 32 years old.........

Palm Springs and SNOW!

My Auntie Gladys (aka Auntie Lettuce) came out to visit for Caleb's birthday party and decided to stay for a few weeks to hang out with all of us. We've had so much fun having her around. Last Friday my dad, Auntie Lettuce, Caleb and I drove to Palm Springs and went up the aerial tramway to the top of the mountain. We were suprised to actually see snow! It was Caleb's first time being in snow and he wasn't exactly thrilled with it. He was definitely curious but then hated it when he slipped and his knee touched the ice. I don't blame him! Next time we take him to see snow I'm sure he will love it. Here are a few pictures from our trip... walking in snow for the first time...
I know it looks funny to see us wearing shorts in the snow but trust me, it really wasn't that cold! (I had jackets and long pants for him but he didn't need them)

Here's Caleb, Papa & Auntie Gladys going up the mountain in the aerial tram. It was so beautiful on the way up!

Ears are normal

Yesterday Caleb had his appointment with the ENT doctor. Despite his chronic ear infections they said he is normal and is not a candidate for tubes. They gave him a hearing test and he was able to hear even the faintest of sounds. I'm glad he doesn't have to have surgery. However, if he is normal but is still tugging at his ears and fussing, at what point do I bring him in to see a doctor? The ENT said I should bring him in if he has a fever with (or after) a cold or has 2-3 days of being miserable. He said we should avoid Caleb's exposure to any respiratory viruses since they would trigger an ear infection. That's nearly impossible when you're dealing with kids and all of their runny noses. I can't put him in a bubble. But hopefully he will outgrow having ear infections all of the time. I wish I had one of those ear scope things so I could check it out myself and have peace of mind. I don't want him to have to wait through 2-3 days of being miserable until he can go to a doctor. . . . . . . pffft.

p.s. Happy belated St. Patty's Day! It's official... Caleb loves corned beef and cabbage!!! yay :)

Tagged

i am really lame because i have been tagged a few times and i haven't done it yet. i always mean to do it but never seem to get around to it. so today, since caleb is taking a nap and i am choosing this time to blog rather than take a shower, here it goes...

1) What are you wearing right now? workout clothes
2) What is your biggest fear? losing my loved ones / car accidents and heart attacks
3) Do you nap a lot? i would love to nap every day but i only do it if i didn't sleep well the night before
4) Who is the last person you hugged? caleb
5) What websites do you visit when you go online? my email, several different blogs, news stories, baby websites
6) What was the last item you bought? dinner at don jose's (does that count as an item?)
7) What is one thing you couldn't live without? my hubby and my baby
8) If you woke up tomorrow and were a boy, what is the first thing you would do and why? isn't there a beyonce song about this???
9) Has a celebrity’s hair cut ever influenced your own hairstyle? the rachel, of course
10) What is your most embarrassing moment? i'm sure i have a million of them but none really come to mind... recently, i insulted a restaurant right in front of the waiter and i had no idea he was there. he called me on it and i was so embarassed.
11) What was the last movie you watched? rush hour 3
12) If you had a whole day to yourself with no work, commitments, or interruptions what would you do? go to the spa and be pampered all day and then come home and enjoy my family
13)What is your favorite fast food restaurant? del taco, portillo's, baker's, in-n-out
14) What is one thing you look for in a friend? loyalty

S*it!

okay, so caleb has added a new word to his vocabulary.... i think he's trying to say "sit" but it sounds a lot like he's saying "shit". i have to tell him over and over that he needs to "sit" down in the tub or "sit" down on the couch so he doesn't fall and hurt himself. so the other day he was walking around saying "shit, shit, shit"! if he is saying "shit" i know he didn't get it from me and since i'm the only person he is around all the time i'm pretty sure he's not intentionally using profanities. it's pretty funny but only because i think he's actually just trying to say "sit"!

12 month update

hmmm.... this looks interesting....
dad, you gotta try this!!!
i LOVE birthday cake!!!

caleb's birthday party was a success! it was a semi-small party at our house with mostly family and a handful of friends. the best part was when caleb was served his birthday cake. he was totally into it as you can see in the pictures. yes, we gave him the whole cake. :) he smashed it, smushed it, flung it, shared it (with us)... he devoured it! i loved watching every second of it. he was having so much fun!
i can't believe my baby is one. this year has flown by. it feels like he was just born! i have enjoyed this year immensely and every day has been filled with joy and love. i look at him and can't believe how blessed i am to be his mommy. i thank God every day for blessing us with caleb. He has changed our lives so completely and filled our hearts with happiness.
i took him to have his 12 month pictures taken and they turned out really cute (i'll have them posted here soon). so cute, in fact, that the picture studio called and asked if they could display his pictures on their wall! i had to go in and sign a model waiver and they had 4 photos of him on their wall for everyone to see. i was so proud. that's my boy!
caleb had his 12 month doctor's appointment today. he weighs exactly 23 lbs (50th percentile), he is 30 1/2" tall (75th percentile) and his head is 19" (90th-95th percentile). his noggin is big just like his daddy's! :) anyway, he had his shots and i wanted to cry. i gave him boom boom (aka boobies) and he felt better but then we went to the lab for blood work (to check for anemia). man, that was awful. i wanted to cry as hard as caleb was crying! they couldn't find his vein and had to dig around to find it. he was so scared and i just wanted to scoop him up and run outta there with my baby. finally, it was over and i gave him boom boom again (although i don't think there was any milk left).
i started giving him whole milk last week. i'm still breast feeding in the morning and at night but i give him a sippy cup of whole milk in the afternoon. he doesn't like it very much but will eventually drink at least some of it. i've been mixing it with breast milk to ease him into it but he still isn't a fan. i hand it to him and he throws his head back and says, "rahhhhhhhhh" like he's trying to say, "oh no, this nasty stuff again?!". i'm going to continue to breast feed until all of his ear issues are resolved.
speaking of ear issues, he's going in for a hearing test and a consultation with the ENT doctor on march 17th -- St. Patrick's Day. last St. Patty's Day his umbilical cord stump fell off. i remember like it was yesterday. time goes by so fast. so, so, so fast.
