Oak Glen

we went to the apple festival at Oak Glen this weekend with papa, nema, great grandma, grammy and justice. overall, we had a good time but it was really crowded and we spent what felt like 12 hours waiting in line for a resturant... and to top it all off they ran out of apple pie! anyway, we're going to go back in November and hopefully we'll have better luck in the food department. below are a couple pics of the day... here we are posing for a family pic. caleb was asleep for a good portion of the day.
he was a tired little baby...

this is a picture from a couple of days ago when caleb and john were playing around. it has nothing to do with our day at Oak Glen, i just thought it was cute so i stuck it in here. my two favorite boys in the world... i am a lucky girl.

Prunes and Poop

earlier this week caleb had a couple days of painful wake-up-screaming-kind-of-gas so i gave him a full jar of prunes and he was all better! he pooped 5 times that day and slept like a rock that night. prunes and poop. gotta love it.

6 month photo session

a few days before we left for hawaii, Kristen came over and did caleb's 6 month photo session. Daniel worked on the editing and the pictures turned out really cute! Click here to view the slideshow.

caleb has been sleeping in his crib at night ever since we got back from vacation. he hasn't been sleeping through the night (he wakes up at least twice) but it's actually been going better than i expected it to. i wasn't ready for him to move to his room. i had to get a video monitor just so i could get some sleep of my own. that monitor is the only reason why i am getting any sleep at all. well worth the money. john packed up caleb's bassinet today so now there's no going back. :( i miss him sleeping next to me so sometimes if he wakes up too early i'll put in in bed with me so we can cuddle for an hour or so. it's so nice. :)

6 month doctor's visit

caleb had his 6 month checkup and shots today. he is doing well physically and developmentally and the doctor was very pleased with him. he now weighs 18 lbs., 12 oz. and is 27" long. he is between the 50th-75th percentile for height and weight but he's in the 75th-90th percentile for head circumference. he's got a big noggin like his daddy. he must have a big brain. :)

the best news we got today was that he no longer needs his acid reflux meds!! he has outgrown his reflux issues like we all were hoping he would. YAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!! for a baby that wasn't digesting his food when he was born (his food would just sit in his stomach and not digest so the NICU people would have to empty the contents of his stomach through the tube in his nose so it wouldn't spoil in his tummy), he sure has come a long way. he no longer needs his meds!!!! and he poops like 3 times a day!!! how's that for digesting, huh? :)

the not so great news (but still no big deal) that we got today is that caleb has a little case of ecsema. the day we landed in hawaii his little cheeks were so pink and dry. i put some moisturizer on them for the rest of the trip and it did get better but i was a little concerned. the doctor confirmed that it's ecsema and that i just need to keep the area moisturized so it doesn't get dry. you can kind of see his pink cheeks in the picture below. doesn't he look like he's prepared for anything in this picture? this was right before we went to the luau. why didn't i put him in an aloha shirt? it would've been a cuter picture but oh well.
you can see in the next picture that his cheeks were less pink a few days later. caleb and my cousin's baby, madison (who is 2 weeks younger), were really cute together. he is such a white boy next to all of his hawaiian family. hehe. you can't see his tooth here but trust me, it's there and it's sharp. it's come up a little more now but i still haven't been able to get a good picture of it.
so anyway, he did really well with his shots today. i didn't know how caleb was going to be afterwards so i asked my dad to come with me since john had to work. he only cried for a few seconds and i nursed him as soon as it was over and he was all better. he was a little fussy later in the day but not bad at all. i am so blessed to be his mommy. no matter what is happening around me, he makes every day a happy one.

Hawaii Pictures

we had a great time in Hawaii. it was one of my favorite vacations of all time. growing up, we went to hawaii every summer for a month (we lived on an island that was 3 miles long and 1/2 mile wide so we needed to escape to hawaii for real shopping, etc. -- i'll have to post about it sometime in the future). anyway, every year we'd go to hawaii and visit family and do some of the tourist-y stuff. but this time it was different. i loved having john and caleb there and it was really nice hanging out with my parents. the week went by way too fast. this was after we climbed to the top of Diamond Head. caleb was a huge hit with everyone - some people wanted to even take their pictures with him! it looks like he was the one that did the climbing, huh? he loves his baby.bjorn. he can look at everything when he's in that thing.
my cousin works at the Ihilani resort and was able to get us employee rates so my parents treated us to a room there for a couple of nights. it was wonderful!!!!!! we had a private lagoon and it felt like paradise.
here we are at sunset.
this is us on the beach in waikiki at 6am!my grandpa's front porch... my brother and i used to sit on these steps eating mangos from my grandpa's tree. i wish my grandpa and grandma were still around to meet my baby boy. i really missed them on this trip.
this is our cabana at the resort (i don't know why the pictures are out of order, sorry!). like i said, it felt like paradise!
this was the first time caleb got in the water. we went to the beach early to take a quick swim before starting our day so i put his feet in to see what he thought of it. he LOVED the ocean. he wasn't afraid at all. in fact, he laughed every time the waves hit him and cried when we took him out of the water. he is a total beach baby.
we also went snorkling, went to Pali lookout, the Punchbowl, Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, hung out with family and drove around the island twice. it was so much fun. i wish we were still there.
oh, i almost forgot! caleb did AWESOME on the flight!!! on the way there he was smiling and laughing at everyone and was just a perfect little angel. he cried for the last 5 minutes because his ears hurt (we only had one jerk make a rude comment to us but other than that, everybody loved him). the flight home was a red-eye and he slept the entire time. i was so happy!!
...and as of last night he has 2 teeth. his top left canine is coming through in addition to the bottom front tooth he got before we left. he's bitten me a few times when i've been nursing him and it hurts!!! i tell him "no, caleb! no biting mommy!" and he laughs. i have to figure out a way to get him to stop. any suggestions?

A Tooth!!

caleb cut his first tooth tonight! he grabbed my finger and shoved it in his mouth and to my surprise, i felt a tooth! you can't really see it but you can definitely feel it's sharp little edge. he has been a drool machine lately and has been fussier than normal. he hasn't let me out of his sight without crying. now i understand why. his first tooth! go baby!!

First Family Vacation

we leave for our first family vacation on saturday. we're going to hawaii. my dad's side of the family lives there so we're going to visit and introduce caleb to all of his aunties, uncles and cousins. my mom and dad are going with us which i am very happy about. it will be nice to spend the time with them. plus, i'm really nervous about how caleb is going to do on the plane so at least there will be 4 different people he can be passed around to in case he doesn't want to sit in one place. i am seriously stressing about it. i don't want him to be one of those screaming babies that everyone on the plane hates. i will feel horrible for him and for everyone else if he doesn't have a good flight. the #1 bit of advice everyone has given me is to nurse him on the way up and the way down so his ears don't hurt. i will nurse him for the entire 5 hour flight if it will keep him from screaming!

i'm also stressing about packing. i have a hard enough time packing for myself but how do i pack for a 6 month old?? at least if i forget something i can always buy it there. i'm supposed to be really excited about this trip so why am i being a stressball about it? the main thing is the flight. if the flight goes well i'll be totally fine. i can't wait to see all of my family there. we're going to a family luau on the night we get there. i can't wait for yummy authentic hawaiian food!! poor john is going to starve (he's a verrrry picky eater) but i'm sure he'll find something he can eat. i'll probably eat enough for the both of us.

there are so many things i need to do before we leave and i'm sitting here blogging. i guess i just needed a break. so if i don't have a chance to blog again before we leave.... ALOHA! i'll be back soon with lots of pictures!

6 months old!

caleb is 6 months old today! he got his first taste of peas today to celebrate the big day. he made funny faces but he did okay with them. today he started eating his veggies like a big boy. how is it that he is half a year old already when it feels like i just gave birth to him and brought him home yesterday?? even though time is going by way too fast i am totally enjoying this age. he is so much fun. he has a new way of letting me know that he wants me. he says something that sounds like "mahhhumm boom boom". sometimes there's only one "boom" or just a "mahhhumm" but it usually means he wants to nurse. i love it.

HAPPY HALF BIRTHDAY, BABY BOY!! MOMMY LOVES YOU!
