Hawaii Pictures

we had a great time in Hawaii. it was one of my favorite vacations of all time. growing up, we went to hawaii every summer for a month (we lived on an island that was 3 miles long and 1/2 mile wide so we needed to escape to hawaii for real shopping, etc. -- i'll have to post about it sometime in the future). anyway, every year we'd go to hawaii and visit family and do some of the tourist-y stuff. but this time it was different. i loved having john and caleb there and it was really nice hanging out with my parents. the week went by way too fast. this was after we climbed to the top of Diamond Head. caleb was a huge hit with everyone - some people wanted to even take their pictures with him! it looks like he was the one that did the climbing, huh? he loves his baby.bjorn. he can look at everything when he's in that thing.
my cousin works at the Ihilani resort and was able to get us employee rates so my parents treated us to a room there for a couple of nights. it was wonderful!!!!!! we had a private lagoon and it felt like paradise.
here we are at sunset.
this is us on the beach in waikiki at 6am!my grandpa's front porch... my brother and i used to sit on these steps eating mangos from my grandpa's tree. i wish my grandpa and grandma were still around to meet my baby boy. i really missed them on this trip.
this is our cabana at the resort (i don't know why the pictures are out of order, sorry!). like i said, it felt like paradise!
this was the first time caleb got in the water. we went to the beach early to take a quick swim before starting our day so i put his feet in to see what he thought of it. he LOVED the ocean. he wasn't afraid at all. in fact, he laughed every time the waves hit him and cried when we took him out of the water. he is a total beach baby.
we also went snorkling, went to Pali lookout, the Punchbowl, Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, hung out with family and drove around the island twice. it was so much fun. i wish we were still there.
oh, i almost forgot! caleb did AWESOME on the flight!!! on the way there he was smiling and laughing at everyone and was just a perfect little angel. he cried for the last 5 minutes because his ears hurt (we only had one jerk make a rude comment to us but other than that, everybody loved him). the flight home was a red-eye and he slept the entire time. i was so happy!!
...and as of last night he has 2 teeth. his top left canine is coming through in addition to the bottom front tooth he got before we left. he's bitten me a few times when i've been nursing him and it hurts!!! i tell him "no, caleb! no biting mommy!" and he laughs. i have to figure out a way to get him to stop. any suggestions?

Sounds like such an awsome trip!

I've always read that if they bite while nursing to sternly say no and then promptly end the feeding and put them down. That way they assosicate biting with not being able to nurse/cuddle anymore. Go back in 15 minutes and try nursing again. I hope it works!

AHHHHHHHHH I AM SO HAPPY TO HEAR/READ YOU!!!! (lol!!!) Missed you for a while! I can't believe all of caleb's teeth!!!!! (all 1 &1/2 of them!) You guys look like you had a beautiful time- what a gorgeous place to be from & to have family! You always have a vacation spot to go to and you're always "home". I know what you mean about your grandparents- it would have been perfect to have them there but they're just there in a different way now
Glad you guys had such a wonderful time and that caleb did so well!
No advice on the biting boobie but I do give my shudders and painful sympathy on that one! OWWWWWWWW!!!!!
Welcome home :)

What an awesome trip. I can totally understand why you would want to still be there. It must have been like heaven.

Ditto on the stopping feeding for about 15 minutes. BL only did it when she was teething so hopeful Caleb will be the same. I feel for ya mama!

Hawaii looks awesome - we can't wait to go again. Dh and I got married there and have been back again and just love it. Glad you had so much fun - that is awesome! What a good boy on the flight - glad it went well.

As for biting during nursing, my b/f book says to push them into you when they do it - not stop feeding, but push them into you and then say no biting and that is another way to try to associate bad stuff with biting. We aren't there yet with biting during nursing so not sure if it works but that's what the book I have says to try. Good luck and keep us posted for what works! Megan
