here's a quick video of caleb. i don't know if it was gas or if he was smiling at me, but he was smiling a lot so i grabbed the video camera. unfortunately, as soon as the camera came out he wasn't smiling as much but it's still cute. enjoy!

1 month pictures

we're still waiting on the announcement photos (we should have them by next week) but here are a few pictures that were taken on caleb's 1 month birthday. i took him to the mall for a quickie photo shoot and they turned out pretty cute.

i love this little baby so much. i could stare at him for hours. i noticed today that his eyelashes have grown a lot. so cute. yesterday i cut his fingernails (for the 4th time in his short little life! he definitely has my nails) and i actually thought about taking a picture of his nail clippings because they were so tiny and adorable. i ended up tossing them without taking a photo but i might end up taking a picture next time. his little nail clippings will only be this size for a little while longer!

5 1/2 hours!

last night caleb slept from 11:30pm all the way to 5am! that means that i got a 5 1/2 hour block of sleep! he sleeps right next to me in a bassinet so i wake up to every little noise he makes throughout the night. but last night there were no noises until 5am. i woke up several times on my own just so i could make sure he was breathing and he was fine so i quickly went right back to sleep. 5 1/2 hours! wow. i hope he does it again tonight.

today i took caleb to my work so he could meet all of my work buddies. it was good to see everyone. i really do work with a great group of people. the last time i was there was december 3rd when my doctor put me on bedrest for the duration of my pregnancy. it seems like so long ago but at the same time it feels like just yesterday. even though i got some sleep last night i still needed a nap when we got home.

i look at caleb now and wonder how did 5 weeks go by so fast? how is it possible that he has grown so much in a blink of an eye? everyone always says how fast babies grow and i understand what they mean now. he literally changes every day... and i love him more and more every day.

Eat, sleep, poop

caleb's appetite has been really big lately. he seems to want to eat all the time and then take a really long nap. i think he may be going through a growth spurt or something. for a while there he was starting to spend a lot more time awake but today all he wants to do is eat and sleep. i hope he sleeps tonight.

kaiser sends out a home nurse to check on the NICU babies to make sure they're gaining weight and doing well. yesterday the nurse came over and she weighed caleb at 9 lbs. 3 oz.! that's a 3 pound gain since birth! that seems like a lot to me but she said it was good and was really happy with it. told you this baby likes to eat!

i've mentioned his eating and sleeping... now for the poop. he has days where he poops up to 5 times a day and then some days he'll only poop once. but almost every time he has to go, he cries and screams and seems to be in pain or at least some discomfort. sometimes i feel so bad for him that i want to cry with him. but then he poops it out and all is better. the other day he pooped big time and it instantly went up his diaper, all over his back and my hand! i think i must have used half a tub of wipes on the clean up. i'm sure he felt a lot better after that one.

My birthday babies

guess what? it's lilo's birthday too! happy 5th birthday, lilo!

caleb is one month old today. it's gone by so fast and he has changed so much. we had some pictures taken a couple weeks ago and yesterday we got to see the proofs. they turned out really cute. as soon as we get them back i'll send out his birth announcements.

over the last couple of days i've noticed a big improvement in how i feel physically. my pelvic pain comes and goes but it's gotten a lot better. i've also been able to sleep in bed instead of the couch for the last few nights. it's been nice. caleb is now able to take a bottle or the breast so i give him a bottle of breastmilk at night when he wakes up. it seems to be working out nicely since he drinks down a bottle in 10 minutes vs. 45 minutes on the boob. i have to sit him up for 30 minutes after he eats (because of his acid reflux) so the time saved on eating allows us both to get back to sleep sooner. i actually got a 4 hour block of sleep last night. i feel so much better when i get some sleep. i actually feel like myself instead of a zombie!

today is also my other baby's birthday. my fur baby (although she doesn't have much fur). it's lilo's 5th birthday. i can't believe we've had her for 5 years. she has been such a great dog and i love having her around. she loves to "help" with caleb and always lets me know when he needs a diaper change. she noses his butt after he poops and then looks at me as if to tell me to change his diaper. then she follows me to the changing table to supervise. she's such a good girl.
