we leave for our first family vacation on saturday. we're going to hawaii. my dad's side of the family lives there so we're going to visit and introduce caleb to all of his aunties, uncles and cousins. my mom and dad are going with us which i am very happy about. it will be nice to spend the time with them. plus, i'm really nervous about how caleb is going to do on the plane so at least there will be 4 different people he can be passed around to in case he doesn't want to sit in one place. i am seriously stressing about it. i don't want him to be one of those screaming babies that everyone on the plane hates. i will feel horrible for him and for everyone else if he doesn't have a good flight. the #1 bit of advice everyone has given me is to nurse him on the way up and the way down so his ears don't hurt. i will nurse him for the entire 5 hour flight if it will keep him from screaming!
i'm also stressing about packing. i have a hard enough time packing for myself but how do i pack for a 6 month old?? at least if i forget something i can always buy it there. i'm supposed to be really excited about this trip so why am i being a stressball about it? the main thing is the flight. if the flight goes well i'll be totally fine. i can't wait to see all of my family there. we're going to a family luau on the night we get there. i can't wait for yummy authentic hawaiian food!! poor john is going to starve (he's a verrrry picky eater) but i'm sure he'll find something he can eat. i'll probably eat enough for the both of us.
there are so many things i need to do before we leave and i'm sitting here blogging. i guess i just needed a break. so if i don't have a chance to blog again before we leave.... ALOHA! i'll be back soon with lots of pictures!

it's totally different traveling with kid(s) than as a married couple of two. i HATE packing so much that i put it off until like midnight the night before we leave, but packing for 1 or 2 kids does stress me out a little. as far as the flight, i bet he'll just nurse and sleep the whole way & if not, (like you said) you can pass him around...and if all else fails, just remember the flight is only 5 hours or so and i'm sure other passengers will understand. here's a tip...bring some toys he's never seen before so they'll keep him entertained...maybe? :)
you guys will be fine and you're gonna have a great trip...i wish we were coming too! :( ~s
I'm sure you're going to get back and say that it was sooooo much easier than you ever thought. That's usually the way it goes.
My sister-in-law was taking her oldest and middle (6 months at the time) on a flight down here from Utah. Their plane sat on the runway for over an hour in Utah before they took off and the youngest had the BIGGEST blow-out that he'd ever had. She didn't have another outfit or enought wipes to really clean up the mess. The entire plane stunk for the entire 3 hours. She laughs now!
Maybe that wasn't the best story to tell you. Oops! Try not to worry to much and be sure to enjoy your trip. We'll miss you guys!
One thing that I learned with taking Connor on flights was that if I gave him a bottle or nursed him right before take off and right before landing and he did great. My doctor even said a little tylenol for his ears would help but he didn't need that. I also packed enough for 2 outfits a day and took plenty of food and snacks for him to have on the plane. Have a great time!!!
totally understand your worry - we are taking Lila back to England to meet dh's family when she will be almost 8 mos. old and I'm a little worried too. I would say just try to remember to stay cool headed and that you can do this - you are such a good Mom, you'll be teaching everyone else what to do by the time you get back! Have fun and be safe!
Good luck on the plane ride. I'm sure he will do fine, especially since your parents are going--once he gets bored you can pass him around to someone else.
Have a fantastic trip! Can't wait to see pictures!
Hope your first family vacation trip might be great.
